David Mrema ( RN) - Houston Methodist |
David was recognized for his personal approach to patient care and for always demonstrating the hospital’s I CARE values. He was nominated by multiple patients, including one who wrote:
“He explained everything he did and the tests that were ordered. He also answered all my questions in a language I could understand. He is a wonderful addition to your staff. He helped me feel better just by coming into the room.”
A co-worker wrote that David is the living embodiment of the I CARE values:
“I have watched him connect with the aggressive, the lonely, the abusive and the abused. My conclusion is the reason he can display such respect and compassion is because he faces the world without judgment. He never makes assumptions or creates opinions about patients or peers. He never engages in gossip and he never seems to be in a bad mood.”
In honor of his DAISY Award selection, David received a certificate of appreciation, a DAISY Award pin and a beautiful sculpture titled “A Healer’s Touch,” hand-carved by artists of the Shona tribe in Zimbabwe.
“David is someone who makes every interaction with a patient or family member a positive one, regardless of the circumstances,” said Janet Leatherwood, Chief Nursing Officer. “Patients and co-workers alike mentioned his kindness and compassion, and how he makes everyone feel calm and reassured. We are proud to recognize David with this DAISY Award.”
